Old boys applaud Delta Govt. for assisting mission schools

Mater Dei College, Ashaka is a Catholic owned institution owned and managed by the Catholic diocese of Warri in Delta State, Nigeria.  It was founded in 1962 and the old students, principal, staff and present students of this great citadel of learning would have rolled out drums to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee anniversary of the school last year, but for the devastating perennial flood of the year 2022, which destroyed most of the school's infrastructure thereby rendering learning and extra curricular activities impossible for the period of October to December, 2022.

The destruction was so enormous  due to the over flooding of the River Niger and its' tributaries. This has become a year occurrence in recent years. The level of destruction is beyond the  financial capability of the School Principal because of low school enrolment and current population of students, ostensibly because of present state of affairs.

We, as old students of Mater Dei College, Ashaka, do not want our alma mater to go into extinction the way of St. Mary Magdalene College, Ashaka, a defunct sister school.

Therefore, we are by this medium making a passionate appeal to all old students of our alma mater both within and outside Nigeria, Non- Governmental Organizations, the Catholic diocese of Warri, the Delta State Government, philanthropists and well spirited individuals, to come to the aid of Mater Dei College, Ashaka in the areas of reconstruction of the damaged perimeter fence, classroom blocks, laboratories, library, I CT centre and hostels.

It would be sad that a school that has produced many great persons in different spheres of human endeavours, such as Generals in the Nigerian Military, world class Professors in the academia, Judges, Legal luminaries, outstanding Medical doctors, Technocrats, Business moguls, Engineers and others,  would be thrown into the trash of once existed institutions in the annals of history.

HISTORY OF THE MATER DEI COLLEGE ASHAKA..
The college was founded on 30th September, 1962 at Ashaka in Aboh division of Midwestern state of Nigeria. The name of the college Mater-Dei, is a Latin word translated to English as Mother of God.
The Motto DEO SEMPER PLACERE is translated to English to mean -whatever you are doing always please God. It is basically a Catholic institution with skeletal Pentecostal influence often accommodated. The College Anthem LITTLE KING SO FAIR AND SWEET is still in vogue The pioneer principal of the school is Rev. Fr. Ojefua. The pioneer students to mention but few include:   See  Admission Register

  The College Old ! soys Association had some hi-cups in the beginning hence the actual date of its commencement cannot be ascertained. The successicn of the Presidents (Leaders] of the Association could be traced from the reign of Chief Eric Anigala who galvanized and sensitized members on the need for the Association to form, grow and mature to fruition.It therefore behoves the students of history to chronicle the leadership of the Association from the era of Chief E.
